VA Benefits—New Students

New Students (First Time GI Bill Benefit Recipients)

To receive VA benefits at UNCG, you must:

  • Be admitted to UNCG through the Undergraduate or Graduate Admission Office, having submitting all official transcripts from all previous institutions, including military transcripts.  For joint services transcripts, request here; however, for Air Force transcripts, request here.  For more information regarding the admission process, visit the following links:
  • Register for courses.
  • Apply to the Department of Veterans Affairs for education benefits via the VONAPP, specifically:
    • VA form 22-1990 (military service members, veterans, and reservists).
    • VA form 22-1990e (Transfer of Entitlement dependents).
    • VA form 22-5490 (dependents of permanently and totally disabled or deceased veterans/Fry Scholarship recipients).
  • Once the VONAPP has been completed, the VA will send the student a Certificate of Eligibility.  Please send a copy of this certificate to the UNCG VA Certification Office, located in the University Registrar’s Office.
  • Register with VA eBenefits. Click Register at top right corner.
  • Attend orientation (SOAR) and register for courses.
  • Complete and submit the online Veteran Services Enrollment form once registered.

Transfer Students (Used GI Bill Benefits at Another Institution)

To receive VA benefits at UNCG, you must:

  • Be admitted to UNCG through the Undergraduate or Graduate Admission Office, having submitting all official transcripts from all previous institutions, including military transcripts.  For joint services transcripts, request here; however, for Air Force transcripts, request here.  For more information regarding the admission process, visit the following links:
  • Register for courses.
  • Apply to the Department of Veterans Affairs for education benefits via the VONAPP, specifically:
    • VA form 22-1995 (military service members, veterans, reservists, and Transfer of Entitlement dependents).
    • VA form 22-5495 (dependents of permanently and totally disabled or deceased veterans/Fry Scholarship recipients).
  • Once the VONAPP has been completed, the VA will send the student a Certificate of Eligibility.  Please send a copy of this certificate to the VA Certification Office.
