All undergraduate students must complete an online graduation application via their UNCGenie account. All degree requirements must be completed for students to be cleared for graduation. Reference the dates in the table below to determine the appropriate term to apply.

Graduation Fee: The $85.00 graduation fee is assessed when the application is submitted. This fee is a one-time fee and is due on receipt of the invoice. *Students completing simultaneous degrees must apply for each degree and will have the graduation fee applied for each degree.


Please check your DegreeWorks evaluation and/or meet with your Academic Advisor prior to completing the graduation application. To access the application log-in to UNCGenie, click the “Student” tab, click “Student Record,” and click “Apply to Graduate.”

How do I apply to graduate?
Log in to your UNCGenie account using your Student ID and PIN Click Student Tab Click Student Record Click Apply to Graduate.
What kind of information will I need to provide on the graduation application?
Name – Your full legal name (as we have it in our system) will appear on your diploma. If the name you want to appear is different from how you are identified in our system, you may need to request a name change. More information can be found by clicking on Name Changes.

Special Characters – If you have special characters in your name that should be printed on your diploma such as hyphens or accent marks, etc., please state exactly what the special character is and where it should be placed in your name. Please be as specific as possible

Diploma Mailing Address – When you fill out your graduation application, the address where your diploma will be mailed is listed. Be sure to enter a mailing address that you will be able to receive mail for at least 3 months after graduation. Entering a diploma mailing address into this form will not change or alter your address in our system. The address information you provide will be used only for the mailing of your diploma.

Curriculum Information – You will be asked to provide your Major, Concentration, Minor (if applicable), etc… Please be as accurate as possible.

I will no longer be living at the address I thought I would be when I filled out my graduation application. If I change my address via my UNCGenie account will that change my diploma mailing address automatically?
No. Changes to your address made in UNCGenie after you have submitted a graduation application, will not update your diploma mailing address. If you have to make a change to your address after the application is submitted, please email by the posted date for the last day of classes in the semester in which you plan to graduate.
I applied to graduate and after speaking with my advisor I realize I will NOT meet all of my degree requirements until the Spring Term or maybe even the Summer Term. What should I do?

I spoke with my faculty advisor and it looks like I will need to take 1 course during the summer. Will I still be considered a May graduate?
 No. To be considered a candidate for a given term, all degree requirements must be met prior to the commencement date. Students who plan to take courses in the summer to complete the requirements for the degree are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the May ceremony. I will be taking courses at another institution to complete my degree requirements; how can I go about ensuring the credits are applied to my degree at UNCG?
You must also complete a Transfer Credit Form with Transfer Articulation in the University Registrar’s Office to ensure the class meets your requirements for graduation. You will need to submit this form by the established graduation deadline for the term in which you plan to graduate. Graduating students have 2 weeks after the close of classes at UNCG to submit official transcripts that will be used for completing their degree.  ***Failure to meet those deadlines or have a course approved by the University Registrar’s Office may delay your graduation by a term. Please stay in touch with the University Registrar’s Office to ensure that your transcript from the other institution is received by UNCG in a timely manner in order for those credits to be properly evaluated. ***

Degrees are not earned based on participation in the university-wide and/or department commencement ceremony. A member of the Graduation Services Department will conduct a final audit of the candidate’s file once all grades are finalized.* Any candidate who fails to meet the requirements for the degree will be denied clearance, thus allowing the candidate to reapply for the subsequent term. Once the official audit shows that all requirements are met by the ceremony date in which the candidate applied for, the degree will be submitted for final confirmation. The awarding of degrees and availability of the official documentation is subject to administrative processes within the University Registrar’s Office.
