Students who are not admitted to a degree program at UNCG may need to follow a different registration process. These student types include:

Visiting students

Students that are not pursuing a degree at UNCG that wish to take UNCG courses are considered “visiting students” and fall into one of the following categories:

Both must apply as visiting students. Visiting students follow later registration dates and do not need to go through the same advising process as other students.

You may earn up to 21 credits as a visiting student and will have to reapply each semester. You will not be eligible to receive financial aid because you will not be in a “degree-seeking” program. Former students cannot apply as visiting students. Visiting students wishing to transfer courses must have permission from their home institution by submitting a completed Visiting Student Permission Form.

Visiting students can obtain more information from Undergraduate Admissions or The Graduate School.

Inter-Institutional students

The Inter-Institutional program is designed to expand the course options available to degree-seeking students currently enrolled in the six colleges and universities listed below:

  • Duke University
  • North Carolina Central University
  • North Carolina State University
  • UNC Chapel Hill
  • UNC Charlotte
  • UNC Greensboro

Current UNCG students who wish to enroll in courses at a participating school may obtain the necessary forms at UNCG through the Registrar’s Office or The Graduate School Office. Coursework will come into UNCG as transfer credit. It will not impact UNCG GPA and cannot be used for grade replacements.

Students must adhere to the rules of the host campus relative to withdrawal and grades. The UNCG Registrar’s Office must be notified of any courses dropped.

Students from other inter-institutional schools who wish to take courses at UNCG should request approval forms at their home institution. When approved, the home institution will provide the appropriate forms to UNCG for processing. Instructions for completing registration will be provided to students when processing is complete.

Note: Students wishing to enroll in courses in the Bryan School of Business and Economics must meet the entrance requirements required of UNCG students and provide transcripts from the home institution before they will be approved.
